Policy- and Lawmakers Outreach and Education

Özyeğin University delivers a wide range of outreach, education and capacity-building initiatives aimed at policymakers, local authorities and public institutions, reinforcing evidence-based decision-making and sustainable governance practices. Through its Technology Transfer Office (TTO), the University provides consultancy and training support during the establishment of Technology Transfer Offices across Türkiye, contributing to the expansion of national innovation capacity and structured knowledge-transfer networks.

In parallel, the Lifelong Learning Center (ÖzÜ-LLC), in partnership with the HMO Foundation, implements professional development and capacity-building programmes on rural development for municipalities in Türkiye’s south-eastern regions. These programmes strengthen local administrative capacity, support data-informed planning and promote inclusive and place-based development approaches tailored to regional needs.

At the local level, Özyeğin University actively collaborates with municipalities to translate sustainability knowledge into practice. In this context, the University partnered with Şile Municipality to co-organize the panel “Taking a Step Towards a Sustainable Future: Resource and Waste Management” within the framework of the European Week for Waste Reduction. The event brought together municipal leaders, academics and practitioners to address sustainable resource use, food waste reduction and integrated waste management solutions. Through expert presentations and participatory discussions, the panel contributed to raising awareness, strengthening local policy capacity and supporting municipalities in designing environmentally responsible and socially responsive waste-management strategies.

Complementing these outreach activities, the Center for Energy, Environment and Economy (CEEE) has collaborated with Çekmeköy Municipality to deliver workshops on planning and implementing energy-efficient housing projects. As part of this collaboration, CEEE developed a practical and user-oriented catalogue on the maintenance and operation of sustainable buildings, supporting municipalities and end-users in applying energy-efficiency principles in daily practice.

In addition, the Faculty of Law contributes to institutional capacity-building by offering specialized certificate programmes for public law officials, including the Mediation Education in Legal Disputes Certificate Programme and the Mediation Education in Criminal Procedure Disputes Certificate Programme. These programmes enhance professional competencies in legal mediation and support the development of more effective, accessible and equitable justice systems.
