The Sustainability HUB
The Sustainability HUB at Özyeğin University serves as an integrated umbrella structure that brings together student communities committed to fostering a culture of sustainability across campus. The HUB includes the Social Awareness Club and the Ecological Life and Food Club, both of which work collaboratively to promote awareness of sustainability in its environmental, social, and economic dimensions, enhance stakeholder engagement, and strengthen students’ capacity to develop innovative and inclusive solutions. Within this framework, the clubs organize seminars, summits, panels, ideathons, and project-based activities, while also supporting the development of students’ communication, leadership, and social impact skills. Through collaborations with the United Nations, public institutions, and international partners, students are encouraged to actively engage with the global sustainability agenda.
The activities carried out by these clubs generate tangible and measurable impacts both on and beyond campus. Led by the Ecological Life and Food Club, underutilized spaces have been transformed into ecological production and learning areas, including the establishment of community gardens in dormitory and campus settings; the dissemination of heirloom seeds, composting systems, and zero-waste workshops have further supported circular practices. The Social Awareness Club organizes awareness campaigns, sustainability marathons, clean-up activities, and training programs, reaching hundreds of students. In addition, partnerships with local producers and cooperatives have enabled access to clean and fair food, while second-hand sharing initiatives and donation mechanisms have strengthened engagement with local communities. Supported by sponsorships and institutional collaborations, these initiatives contribute to students’ acquisition of both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, while advancing the institutionalization of a sustainability culture and expanding its impact at national and international levels.
