Support for Underrepresented Groups

Özyeğin University is committed to ensuring equitable access to higher education and fostering an inclusive environment for all students, including those from underrepresented groups. In line with this commitment, the university implements targeted mechanisms to monitor, support, and empower individuals who may face structural barriers to participation in academic life.

Gender equality constitutes one of our most systematic approaches in this area. Through the ÖzU Gender Office, Özyeğin University systematically tracks gender-related data and develops action plans to promote equal participation across all institutional levels. The Gender Equality Plan (GEP) defines measurable objectives and support structures addressing issues such as recruitment, retention, work-life balance, and representation in leadership positions. The ÖzU Gender Office also leads awareness and training initiatives designed to challenge stereotypes and promote a culture of equity and inclusion across the university community.

In addition to gender-focused measures, the university provides dedicated support for students with disabilities, ensuring accessibility in both physical and digital environments. These efforts are complemented by tailored support mechanisms to help students with disabilities fully participate in academic and social life.

The Office of Intercultural Awareness and Support (OIAS) further expands the university’s inclusivity framework by enhancing the experience of international students and scholars. The office provides cultural programming, comprehensive pre-arrival and post-arrival support, immigration advising, and community awareness trainings. It recognizes that intercultural awareness and experience are integral to university life, as countless individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to share space and learn from one another’s unique ways of being.

Finally, to address socioeconomic inequalities, Özyeğin University offers a range of financial support schemes, including the EFEB (Equal Opportunity Scholarship in Education) Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This program exemplifies the university’s broader commitment to equal opportunity by enabling talented students to pursue higher education regardless of their financial circumstances.

Through these combined efforts, Özyeğin University continues to strengthen its institutional culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that all members of its community, regardless of gender, socioeconomic status, or ability, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to academic life.
