Examining Climate Trauma Through a Gender Lens | Sustainability Talks Series

Examining Climate Trauma Through a Gender Lens' was the title of the Sustainability Talk where we hosted Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim, a Marie Curie Academy member conducting gender-focused studies at SU Gender Centre in Sabancı University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

During this talk, we discussed the definition of the Anthropocene term and various scenarios it presents, focusing on a different form of violence and trauma suggested by this term, climate violence, and climate trauma. We delved into climate violence and climate trauma, which often aren't spectacular, visible, or immediately observable, and discussed the grieving and mourning forms it signifies, highlighting its urgency within the framework of sustainability. Moreover, we emphasized that we cannot discuss climate trauma devoid of all distinctions—social, economic, geographical, class-based, ethnic, and gender-related—and examined climate trauma from a gender perspective.
