Sustainability, which is one of the fundamental principles of ÖzU, is also reflected in research activities. Research on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) accounts for 20% of the total research funding at ÖzU.

In fact, these research projects go beyond the research itself and cover a wide range of activities, from academic publications and academic meetings to MakerLab, Finance Lab and even training for women entrepreneurs. In recent years, ÖzU's sustainability-related activities have been grouped under the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, as shown in the Figure below.

As can be seen in the Figure, OzU has undertaken and is undertaking many activities, particularly in the areas of SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Habitats) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Another importance of these SDGs is that they are in priority areas for Turkey's development. With these efforts, OzU makes a significant contribution to Turkey's sustainable development.

In addition to these, OzU carries out sustainability studies in the most efficient and effective way through the research centres it has established. Some of these research centres are the Energy, Environment and Economy Centre; Energy Efficient Electronics, Lighting Technologies Application and Research Centre; Technology Products Research and Application Centre; Optical Wireless Communication Technologies Research and Application Centre; Migration Studies Laboratory and Entrepreneurship Centre. All research centres within OzU can be viewed here.
